Inadequate Teacher Education: Averse to the Best Interest of Science Communities and to Life on Planet Earth

Some blog followers might be interested in a recent post “Inadequate Teacher Education: Averse to the Best Interest of Science Communities and to Life on Planet Earth” [Hake (2013)]. The abstract reads:

ABSTRACT: Meltzer, Plisch, & Vokos (2013) in a recent APS News essay at http://bit.ly/1arpo3C reported that “The national landscape of physics teacher preparation shows a system that is largely inefficient, mostly incoherent, and completely unprepared to deal with the current and future needs of the nation’s students. . . . . Most physics departments currently avoid playing an active role in physics teacher education. We believe this avoidance is not in the best interests of the physics community.”

Similar comments could probably be made for science-teacher preparation generally. Inadequate teacher education is averse not only to the best interests of science communities. More importantly, it’s averse to life on Planet Earth. For a recent return to that 24-year-old theme see “ ‘Where is Everybody?’ Failure to Detect Intelligence in the Universe is Due to Failure of Universities Throughout the Universe” [Hake (2013)] at http://bit.ly/H3roIC (6.8 MB).
