ABSTRACT: Phys-L’s David Craig asked (paraphrasing) “Any suggestions for recent review articles on the current state and efficacy of Physics Education Research (PER)?” Both Phys-L’s Dean Zollman and PhysLrnR’s Jennifer Docktor recommended “A Synthesis of Discipline-Based Education Research in Physics” [Dockter & Mestre (2011)] at http://bit.ly/fOQWrc. In addition Docktor pointed to:
(1) Karen Cummings’ (2011) review “A Developmental History of Physics Education Research” at http://bit.ly/u9nwaS.

Here is another article which should be listed among these, as it includes many PER innovations in the meta-analysis. "Impact of Undergraduate Science Course Innovations on Learning" Maria Araceli Ruiz-Primo, Derek Briggs, Heidi Iverson, Robert Talbot, and Lorrie A. Shepard. Science 11 March 2011:
Vol. 331 no. 6022 pp. 1269-1270
DOI: 10.1126/science.1198976
Bud,
Thanks for alerting me to "Impact of Undergraduate Science Course Innovations on Learning" [Ruiz-Primo et al. (2011)].
I had been unaware of that article. I suggest that you widen its audience by committing it to the OPEN literature. That could easily be done by e.g., placing it at Ruiz-Primo's website .
Such placement would, of course, be in compliance of the Fair Use provisions of US Copyright Law - see Sections 107 and 108. See e.g., Cornell University Law School information for Sect. 107 at and Sect. 108 at .
In the meantime, perhaps you might consider sending me copy so I can find out what it’s about.
Richard Hake
